Hermitage Set to Host Thrilling U.S. Roller Speed Skating Championships Again
The vibrant buzz of roller skates and the anticipation of high-speed races are returning to Hermitage, as the city prepares to host the U.S. Roller Speed Skating Championship once more. Following a highly successful event last year, the Roller Skating Association International has again selected the Olympic Fun Center in Hermitage for this exhilarating competition, set to take place from June 10 to 14.
The Olympic Fun Center, acclaimed for its superb facilities, received glowing reviews from participants in last year’s championship. Owners Dawn and Joe Smith are delighted with the return of the event. “The participants loved Hermitage last year,” Dawn Smith shared. “They felt very welcomed and appreciated our facility’s cleanliness and overall ambiance.”
This year, there’s a significant tweak in the event schedule. Traditionally, the championship week would be followed by a week dedicated to artistic roller skating. However, this year, the artistic events will be held later in June in Union, Missouri. This change means Hermitage will exclusively host the speed skating segment, which draws a larger crowd. Over 1,000 participants and spectators are expected, which is a boon for local hospitality and businesses.
Local hotels are gearing up for the influx, with the Smiths having already arranged blocks of rooms to accommodate visitors. Peggy Mazyck, chief executive officer of the Mercer County Tourist Promotion Agency, confirmed that the previous event sold out local hotels and boosted business for restaurants throughout the area. To enhance the experience for visitors, the agency will once again provide shuttle bus services to and from the event.
While the final touches on the daily race schedules are still being finalized, competitors will start arriving at the Olympic Center on June 9 for initial workouts, with races likely kicking off the next day. Attendees this year can also look forward to an array of food trucks, adding a flavorful twist to their experience.
With last year’s event providing valuable experience, the Olympic Fun Center is even better prepared to host the championship this year. “After last year, it will be a little bit easier now because we have the experience and know what to expect,” Smith stated. This preparation ensures that the upcoming U.S. Roller Speed Skating Championship in Hermitage will not only meet but likely exceed the high expectations set by last year’s successful event, promising another unforgettable week of speed, skill, and community spirit.
